It gets so bad on my PCs that it freezes everything on the computer and I have to walk away until it unfreezes, then I go to online access for my email accounts...which I don't like. I've used Thunderbird probably for as long as it's existed and I have never found another email client that I like better or even as well. This started a couple years ago and I thought it was my computer (desktop PC). I wondered if the problem happened after an update, but was unable to target the exact date to try to link it to an update. And it really freezes your PC, not just Thunderbird? Please start *Windows'* safe mode with networking enabled - - win8 - win7 Still In Windows safe mode, start thunderbird in safe mode - Does problem go away? If I'm patient (not my long suit) it will eventually respond. Most of the time when that happens, I can't even close the window or close TB through Task Manager. https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird: Testing: Antivirus_Related_Performance_Issues documents that Trend Micro has been an issue in the past.
2 years ago I added a Mac Air to my computers, installed Thunderbird and it has worked without a hitch..email accounts, same settings, same everything. I spent a "bit" of time with Trend Micro Support over a couple days. Something I forgot to mention is that this happens most often when it is downloading a new message, sending a message, etc., in other words, doing something else at the time. If I'm patient (not my long suit) it will eventually respond. Since it's nearing midnight where I am, I will wait until tomorrow to reboot and give safe mode a try and will post my results. I posted earlier today: "I booted in Safe Mode and have been using my computer (PC Laptop) as I normally would for the best part of an hour...including sending and receiving emails. I will check in with Trend though..if they've any known conflicts with Thunderbird on PCs. Please post your findings so we know if they have a better solution than Testing: Antivirus_Related_Performance_Issues documents that Trend Micro has been an issue in the past.
I then told him about my experience and he didn't seem overly concerned at all.
I had to really emphasize the fact that I purchased this pack from a very large, well known chain and it was obviously a scam.
I had returned the pack to the store and they are dealing with the fake packs as well they gave me a refund, so I uninstalled it and will NEVER use it again or recommend it to anyone.
VERY suspicious, it's possible the whole company (Trend Micro) has been compromised by either disgruntled ex-employees or employees who are moonlighting for extra cash.
I was able to activate my antivirus with no problem. So he was bringing up all these complex looking system files one after the other and said that I had a serious problem, a few of them, firstly my IP address has been compromised, and that the settings showed a bunch of insecured violations from somebody who had accessed my computer and kept saying complicated jargon that totally freaked me out. He said he could fix it all up, and also give me another year of trend micro free for the bargain price of 9!! I nearly swallowed my tongue, and just said, "No I can't afford that." He then gave me 0 off so a bargain price of just 9.I said I still can't do it, he basically just hung up on me.I called it and it all seemed kosher until this guy said it wouldn't work and could he remotely access my pc as there were some problems with the settings and he could fix them.
I thought this was possible since my computer was like new and I hadn't done anything to it yet.Over the next day or so I will see if it continues and post here with the results. TB is working without a hitch..it does on my MAC." How do we know it's Trend? I will check in with Trend though..if they've any known conflicts with Thunderbird on PCs. I'm very grateful for the input and being pointed in the right direction!
