He was married to Louise Stricklin of Yazoo City for nearly 66 years and they had two sons, Phil and Mark.
One of seven children, he was born on October 31, 1930, in Yazoo County to the late James N. He was a member of Scotland Baptist Church for many years as well as First Baptist Church in Yazoo City. He always planted a large garden that would produce enough vegetables to give to his family and share with his friends .
